Player Development Specialist / Facilities Manager

Wheelhouse Performance Center is seeking a dedicated Baseball & Softball Player Development Specialist who will also serve as Facilities Manager. This hybrid role focuses on developing athletes from 7U through high school, supporting long-term player growth, and ensuring the facility operates at a professional standard. The position requires consistent afternoon-to-evening availability, with scheduled hours from 1:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and may include weekends based on programming needs.

Key Responsibilities

Player Development (7U–High School)

  • Develop baseball and softball athletes across all age groups, from foundational 7U skill building to advanced high-school performance.
  • Lead individual and small-group training sessions focused on hitting, pitching/throwing, fielding, movement quality, and sport-specific IQ.
  • Create age-appropriate development plans emphasizing fundamentals, athleticism, and progressive skill acquisition.
  • Use video analysis, assessments, and performance metrics to evaluate athlete strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Communicate clearly with athletes and families regarding goals, expectations, and progress.
  • Support Wheelhouse programs including camps, clinics, team training, and seasonal development tracks for baseball and softball.
  • Foster a positive, competitive, and growth-oriented environment aligned with Wheelhouse’s culture.

 

Program Leadership

  • Assist in designing and implementing training curriculum for baseball and softball athletes from youth through high school.
  • Contribute to long-term development models, progression systems, and age-specific training standards.
  • Collaborate with other Player Development Specialists to ensure consistency and quality across all Wheelhouse programs.
  • Help identify talent, track athlete progress, and support pathways into competitive baseball and softball opportunities.

 

Facilities Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the Wheelhouse Performance Center, including turf areas, cages, bullpens, pitching lanes, and training spaces.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment for athletes, families, and staff.
  • Manage scheduling for lessons, team training, rentals, camps, and special events.
  • Coordinate equipment upkeep, repairs, and inventory management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors, service providers, and maintenance contractors.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for camps, clinics, and high-traffic training periods.

 

Work Schedule

  • Standard hours: 1:30 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Weekends: Required as needed for camps, clinics, tournaments, and seasonal programming
  • Compensation: Competitive compensation package negotiable based on experience and qualifications

 

Qualifications

  • Experience developing baseball and/or softball athletes, especially youth through high school.
  • Strong understanding of sport-specific fundamentals, skill development, and age-appropriate teaching methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with athletes and families.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Passion for youth development and long-term athlete growth.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a private training facility or performance center.
  • Familiarity with baseball/softball technology (video tools, radar systems, swing/throwing analytics).
  • Ability to operate facility equipment (turf groomers, batting cage systems, utility carts).
  • Customer-service mindset and ability to work collaboratively with staff and families.
